Papilio
A dark theme from a character’s colours: art anchors, a lightness ladder for colour blindness, and the Blood Blossom variant with more blood. Three gates (contrast, CVD, tokens) and a Base24 export.
The palette
20 tokens
From the character to the screen
the raw colour and the one that survived contrast
The anchors are colours taken straight from the art. Almost none of them pass contrast over the editor background — so each was lifted until it did, keeping its hue. The ratios below are computed against that background, not copied from a note.
the red of her eyes, lifted until it passes for body text
the flower’s vivid red is beautiful and unreadable; it became pink
the hat’s bronze, pulled toward gold
the violet ribbon is nearly black in the art; here it lights up
the night sky behind her, raised to a syntax blue
Roles
what each token colours in code
The flavors
the same theme in a different light
The variant is an overlay: only the tokens that change. Roles, the lightness ladder and anchors come from the base — semantic decisions stay in one place. Blood Blossom raises chroma at the same L (what protects colour blindness) and sinks the backgrounds into wine. Pick below and watch the whole page change its light.
